I don’t have PM, but I used EXIFtoolGUI and EXIFtool to extract the preview and it was full resolution.ġ0. It is possible theĬamera-embedded JPG would be better quality than the reduced-size mRAW in some instances. PhotoMechanic is confusing things because it is working with and reporting the camera-embedded JPG which happens to be full-res, not the reduced-size mRAW data. Re: How do I prevent Adobe DNG Converter 7.4 from cutting image pixel count? If it was reception images, it is probably fine.Ĩ. It depends on how big a print you might need in the future. When we shoot 3000 imgaes between us, it helps to have smaller files, but I don't want to loose too much quality.ħ. Going forward, should I aske her to set it to Raw, or is the I checked with my second shooter, and she indeed set the camera to mRaw. The pixel dimensions match exactly with mRaw.Ħ.
You need to verify with your second shooter. Mind you, I suspect this is what happened. There are probably much better technical explanations for how that happens.
So while all the MP of the camera were used, the output file is smaller in MP. That resultant file is saved on theĬamera's memory card. The image is captured with the full sensor data and then is downsampled during in-camera processing to create a smaller version that retains the Raw bit-depth. Does MRaw mean it cuts the image pixel dimmensions down toģ960x2460? It is strange that Photo Mechanic thinks it is a larger image.ĥ. The second shooter I hired for this shoot used the 5D M2, I use the D700, so I am not familiar with the Canon settings. You had your camera set to MRaw instead of Raw.Ĥ. When I view it 1:1 in Photo Mechanic it looks significantly larger than files from the smaller D700 (12 MP).ģ. When I look at the file in Photo Mechanic it says it is 5760 x3840, and file size is 18.1 MB. I notice that on the FInder it says that the dimemnsions are 3960 x 2460, and files size 18.5 MB. I upladed one of the CR2 files from the 5D M3 to dropbox.
Perhaps you can provide a public download link to one of your CR2 files, after uploading it to or similar. I tried converting a few sample 5D.3 CR2 files to DNGs using the DNGC 7.4 and they are the same size as the CR2s, 5760x3840. How do I avoid loosing half the image? Am I missing something?ġ. I tried it without lossy compression, and with Lossy compression (making sure preserve pixel count was selected).Įither way the image's pixel count is reduced. The original Raw imagesĪre 22 megapixels (5760 x 3840), the DNG files are 10.5 megapixels (3960 x 2460). When I import the DNGs into LR I noticed that the total pixel count has been significantly reduced. I converted 5D Mark III Raw files to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter 7.4. How do I prevent Adobe DNG Converter 7.4 from cutting image pixel count?
